Eche zo-EN [2222] aiOni-on [166]; kai a-naSTEso auTON eGO te esCHAte heMEra.

have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

NOTE: Jesus alwaysknew as Son of man what lay in the heart of man. The Holy Spirit in Him gave the heart of the Father without measure. However, though also the Son of God, He did notknow the time of His return - His Second Coming. The Father in His Wisdom did not share this with His Son, who was His perfect servant! But for these men who followed Him across the Lake of Galilee to Capernaum - Jesus knewthat it was not His signs- that motivated them - but because they saw in Him a Bread-King! Jesus clearly and forthrightly disabused them concerning the true purpose of His coming! Isaiah 53 is perhaps the clearest prophecy in all of Scripture outlining this.

But it is in 6:32 on, that Jesus clearly answers their question and corrects their misapprehensions. And perhaps what He told His disciples in another place - applies to the crowd here - Until the coming of the Holy Spirit to indwell the heart of true believers, Jesus is “straitened” in His ability to get through to natural and fleshly hearers. He says in that place - “I have a baptism to be baptized with (His death) - and how am I straitened until this be accomplished.” But on the day of Pentecost, see the transformation in the life of Peter in his sermon of explanation! And see the 3000 converts who accepted Peter's challenge of Acts 2:38, and repented, believed, were baptized and received the gift (do-reA) of the Holy Spirit! What a contrast at that time compared with the blindness and naturalness and lack of spirituality in the “crowd” of this passage!

Jesus clearly spells out the Father's purpose in sending His Son to them. And after this, many of these could be born from above into God's Kingdom - then - reading this Gospel later written by John - allmadesense!

Jesus coming as a Teacher for His three years of ministry, was notthe main purpose of His coming. Apart from His death, resurrection, ascension and giving of the Holy Spirit, He was up to thattime frustrated and straitened. It was deaththrough His shed blood, that brought Redemption and Reconciliation - that He mainly came for! All preceding that laid a foundation, but was fruitless until this true event. “The Son of man came notto be ministered unto, but to minister, and give His life a Ransom for many.” This was the verse over the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Chicago, in which we served during seminary days - that clearlyspells out the main purpose of Jesus!
